ROCKY MOUNT ELEMENTARY HOSTS ITS FIRST HOLIDAY LITERACY NIGHT

Rocky Mount Elementary will be hosting its first multicultural holiday literacy night on Tuesday, December 19th from 5-6pm. The purpose of the event is to bring awareness to the important of literacy development in children throughout the Franklin County community. Children will be participating in crafting ornaments and decorating sugar cookies.  Attendees will also have the opportunity to enjoy sipping on hot chocolate while participating in small reading groups lead by community leaders and educators: Dr. Mark Church (FCPS School Superintendent), Mr. Mark Washburn (FCPS School Board President), and Mrs. Debbie McDaniel (retired public school teacher of 33 years and current substitute teacher of 14 years). Children will have various holiday books and coloring books to take home with them that evening.

RMES Holiday Literacy Night is free to the public and open to all. This event is being held with the support of Cummins Leadership Foundation.

Cummins Leadership Foundation offers students in economically-challenged areas across the United States the opportunity to receive books and supplemental funding that support positive, progressive leadership development in children and young adults. The goal of the organization is to see the echoes of those positive changes throughout the lifetime of the children and their communities. For the 2017-2018 school year, Cummins Leadership Foundation will be offering financial and literacy support to Rocky Mount Elementary in Franklin County, Virginia, select Title 1 schools in Frederick County, Maryland, and two high need schools in the Oxford Hills School District in Maine.

CUMMINS LEADERSHIP FOUNDATION ANNOUNCES SUMMER FUNDRAISERS

Cummins Leadership Foundation has announced two summer fundraisers with local restaurants and wineries in the Frederick, Maryland area. Money generated from these fundraisers will go directly to select Title 1 schools in Frederick County, MD to help pay for before and after school tutoring programs, literacy efforts, and basic classroom and school supplies.

The first local fundraiser will be at Chipotle in North Frederick (7810 Wormans Mill Rd, across from Wegmans) on Wednesday, July 26th from 5pm -9pm. Patrons must show the cashier their flyer or mention Cummins Leadership Foundation and Chipotle will donate 50% of their proceeds to CLF.

The second fundraiser will be at Linganore Winery in Mt. Airy, Maryland on Sunday, July 30st from 12pm - 6pm. Mention Cummins Leadership Foundation and tasting fees will be donated to CLF that afternoon. After enjoying a tasting, patrons can relax with a glass of wine on the patio while listening to to Safe Harborone the most requested performer duo at regional wineries and breweries.
